Nature’s Colors
This summer I began an exciting journey of discovery into the world of eco-printing and natural dyes. I am so inspired by the natural beauty around me, so I wanted to learn how to care for and protect the environment while utilizing the beautiful range of colors and designs provided by nature!
These garments and accessories are created using eco-conscious processes and botanical or naturally sourced dyes. The leaf patterns are created by steaming the fabric with wildflowers or eucalyptus leaves in order to transfer the tannins from the leaves to the fabric. I then over-dye the fabric with natural colors derived from cochineal, madder root, walnut shells, and indigo. I also use environmentally sustainable practices, such as recycling the water I use for washing and dyeing to water the trees and plants around my house.
